'Write What You Know!'

Good advice after writing three unpublished books!

In the years following my retirement from practicing as an Architect, I wrote three books but, despite an enormous amount of work, I had to face up to the fact that none of them was going to be bought by a publisher.

A few years ago I had found, in my late mother’s papers, a bundle of the letters I had sent home from Cyprus . I sat down and read several of them and found they rekindled my interest in the history of the island and its relevance to the politics that gave rise to the conflict. I realised that as a young officer I had not been fully briefed on the political situation so I decided to research the subject and after some months found it so absorbing that I wanted to write about it.

A few weeks later I had a long talk with a publisher friend. She had read two of my books and her advice was simple. 'Write what you know!' I had already started the research and the result, Something to Write Home About, will be published in April 2022.
